What is hardscape?

The term “hardscape” refers to the non-living components of a landscape– such as brick patios, stone walkways, and wood decks. Hardscaping can also include water features, like koi ponds and fountains. Hardscaping defines a space, providing both definition and visual appeal. Hardscaping is rarely ever installed without softscaping (the placement of plants, shrubs, and trees in the landscape), and the key to any successful landscape design is the harmonious integration of both hardscaping and softscaping.
